Alicante stands as the “Kilometer Zero” for the planet’s most demanding offshore adventure. For the 2027 edition, The Ocean Race is redefining the limits of sailing with a historic opening leg.
On January 17, 2027, the fleet will set sail from the Port of Alicante to tackle a milestone never seen before in the race’s 53-year history: a 14,000-nautical-mile opening leg to Auckland, New Zealand. For the first time, teams will race halfway around the world in a single stretch, setting the stage for the ultimate test of human endurance and technology.
The 2027 route will connect iconic ports and communities dedicated to ocean health. While the full route will be revealed in the coming months, the first milestones of this global journey are already confirmed:
The Start: Alicante, Spain (January 17, 2027)
Stopover 1: Auckland, New Zealand
Stopover 2: Itajaí, Brazil
Grand Finale: AMAALA, Red Sea (Saudi Arabia)
