21 Oct SPTD takes part in the first Security Board meeting to coordinate the security arrangements for Alicante Puerto de Salida 2027
The Sociedad de Proyectos para la Transformación Digital (SPTD), the public body of the Generalitat Valenciana responsible for organising Alicante Puerto de Salida, took part this Wednesday in the first working meeting of the Alicante Security Board to plan the security arrangements for the event. Alicante Puerto de Salida will host the start of The Ocean Race 2027 on 17 January and the Ocean Live Park from 8 to 17 January.
During the meeting, participants reviewed the general characteristics of the event, the expected capacity, and the management of access points and public flows, as well as the layout and distribution of the various spaces. Discussions also covered security measures and arrangements both on land and at sea, healthcare and emergency services, and the necessary coordination and communication between the different teams and services involved. Key risks and the specific requirements of the event were identified, and the next steps and working timetable were agreed.
The aim of this first meeting was to establish a shared basis for coordination and to define the main lines of action on security ahead of the subsequent planning and delivery phases of the event.
Carmen Alfonso Palop, Director General of SPTD, said the meeting had enabled the parties “to make orderly progress on all the key aspects of the security arrangements”. She added: “The Generalitat Valenciana and SPTD are fully committed to ensuring that Alicante Puerto de Salida 2027 is a success in every respect – sporting, organisational, security and the visitor experience. We can draw on the experience of previous editions and on the firm commitment of all the institutions and security forces involved. Our goal is to deliver an impeccable, safe and high-quality event, worthy of Alicante and the Valencian Community.”
In the 2023 edition, Alicante City Council and the Government Sub-delegation coordinated a special Security Board operation that deployed around 500 officers a day from the Policía Nacional, Guardia Civil and Policía Local. Restrictions were introduced in the marine area between Alicante Port and Cabo de la Huerta during the coastal (In-Port) races, while the Ocean Live Park featured access controls, CCTV and healthcare services for thousands of visitors.
SPTD is actively involved in the institutional coordination of this work, reinforcing the Generalitat Valenciana’s commitment to a safe and excellent organisation.
This initial meeting lays the foundations for a comprehensive security plan that will ensure the safety of participants, teams, visitors and residents throughout the ten days of the Ocean Live Park and the fleet’s departure for Auckland on 17 January 2027.
